Farewell Matthew!

September 2nd, 2010

The sad day has finally come, Matthew Therrien, our MLK VISTA AmeriCorps volunteer, mentor and snowboard guru, has finished his term of service. Over the past year he has gotten the tSB basement more organized than ever before, created systems for managing all of our rock star volunteers and played a major role in the lives of tSB youth (DOBC Family for Life!). We are so grateful for all of his hard work and the love he brings to the office every day.

“The thing I’ll miss most is listening to him singing when he thinks no one else is nearby, or maybe his awesome hair. Probably the hair,” says Executive Director, Ashley Miller. “He put a lot of heart and soul into his work, it will be tough to see him move on, but we’re excited to see what he does next.”

Fortunately, Matt’s not going far. He will continue to volunteer with the Service Board as he looks for more work that will impact his community. In the winter, he will begin looking at colleges and pursue his degree in Architecture or Land Resource Utilization. Goodbye and good luck Matt. We’ll always be here for you!

STAR SEARCH 2010: we are now accepting mentor applications.

August 26th, 2010

It is getting to be that time of year again and tSB is gearing up for another exciting year of mentorship, snowboarding and community service in Seattle.  Our program only exists because of the amazing people in our community and all of the time, energy and love that you give!

It is because of the amazingness that you bring to tSB that we are hoping that you will help us recruit mentors, volunteers and youth!  The Service Board is currently looking for mentors for the White Center and South End programs, and in the coming weeks we will begin outreach to youth to participate in our program as prophets.  We are also looking for volunteers to be involved in different aspects of our programming, like snowboarding, cooking and facilitating workshops.

Click here to download a mentor application, and please share it with people you think will help our program grow in 2011. We want to be up front that it is a BIG COMMITMENT, but it will also change your life. We be getting more information out to all of you as soon as we start to get this year’s program calendars squared away, but we just wanted to let you know that tSB is getting ready to start and that we need your help finding amazing people to create a powerful tSB in 2011!
